Methodology
What we compare
Every tool is assessed against the same criteria:
- Pricing
- The lowest paid price the vendor lists, and the billing period.
- Free plan
- Whether the tool can be used without paying, and what the free tier includes.
- Emails founders
- Whether the tool finds startup founders and contacts them, or drafts outreach to them, on the user's behalf.
- Emails recruiters or hiring team
- Whether the tool contacts, or drafts outreach to, recruiters, hiring managers or other employees at the hiring company on the user's behalf.
- Sends from Gmail
- Whether outreach emails are sent from the user's own Gmail account.
- Follow-ups
- Whether the tool sends, or drafts for you, follow-up messages when there is no reply.
- Auto-apply
- Whether the tool submits job applications automatically.
- Tracking
- Whether the tool tracks applications or outreach from first contact to reply.
- Interface
- Where you use the tool: web app, browser extension, mobile app or messaging app.
How claims are labelled
Each claim about a tool carries one of three labels. Products were not tested hands-on; the labels describe what public sources say.
- Verified
- Stated on the vendor's own current public pages (product, pricing, documentation or help center), quoted and dated.
- Vendor-reported
- A figure or outcome the vendor states about itself, such as user counts, ratings or success rates. We have not confirmed it outside the vendor.
- Not publicly documented
- We checked the relevant public pages on the date shown and found no statement either way.
Where claims come from
Sources are used in this order of preference:
- Vendor documentation.
- Vendor product and pricing pages.
- Vendor help centers and FAQs.
- Secondary sources, used to find first-party pages. A claim cites a first-party page wherever one exists.
Every claim records the exact page it came from and the date that page was checked. A claim with no public source is labelled not publicly documented rather than guessed.
How tools are ordered
Each page names the criteria used to order its lists, and each list is ordered by the criteria relevant to it. A tool counts toward a criterion only when a verified or vendor-reported claim shows the capability. A free plan counts only when the free tier includes the capability the list is about, such as tracking, auto-apply or outreach. A list about a specific capability ranks only tools that have it; other tools may be mentioned as not fitting. Tools that meet more of a list's criteria rank higher. When tools tie, the one with more verified claims across all criteria ranks higher. Tools still tied are shown as tied and listed alphabetically; alphabetical order is not a ranking. The same rule applies to every tool, including Backdoor.
Updates and corrections
Each page shows when it was published and last updated, and lists the sources checked with their dates. When a vendor changes a price or feature, or a reader reports an error, we recheck the source and update the claim, its checked date and the page's updated date.
